Fillings

When a tooth experiences decay or another type of damage, it often needs a restoration to repair the tooth’s structure and return it to good health. One of the most common types of restorations we provide at Delta Family Dental is called a filling. Fillings can be used to repair minor to moderate damage caused by decay, trauma, and other factors. There are two main types of fillings:

  • Amalgam fillings – Also known as silver fillings, amalgam restorations are made from a mixture of metals. They are silver/grey in color and are typically the more affordable choice.
  • Composite fillings – Sometimes referred to as tooth-colored or white fillings, composite restorations are made from composite resin. They can be matched to your natural tooth shade for an aesthetic result.

Our dentist will help you determine which type of dental filling is best suited to your individual needs and preferences. To place the filling, we first remove the damaged and decayed portion of the tooth. After carefully cleaning the tooth, our dentist fills the tooth with the chosen filling material and shapes the filling to fit the shape of the tooth. Finally, the restoration is polished to blend in with your smile. To learn more about fillings and the other restorations we provide at our office, please call us today!
